I've been here twice for the 6 pound lunch, without mentioning my diet in advance. The first time they were extremely helpful and made me this wonderful huge mixed salad with avocado and olives - it was the envy of my table! The second time I asked for the same thing, but I think they would have liked to know in advance of my requirements. Would happily go again.

The set-price lunch is now £6.

This is in Little Clarendon Street and does a set-price lunch at £5, and an á la carte menu in the evening. They have a separate vegetarian dinner menu.
It's a good idea to tell them in advance, for both lunch and dinner, if you want there to be a vegan option. You may be lucky even if your outing is a last-minute decision though - the last time I went there for dinner (November 1997) the vegetarian menu included vegan Stuffed Pepper. I was somewhat disappointed with this though - half a red pepper, half a tomato, a heap of white rice and a leaf salad is not what I call a meal.
If you arrange your visit in advance, your meal will probably be salad for starter, then stir-fried veg, then fruit salad for afters, but it's really well done; and the last time I booked in advance for dinner they did a fabulous vegan tomato soup for the starter.
Meat-eaters seem to like this place - they seem to get half a lamb rather than half a pepper, though.
